Equipment for Strength Building Exercises

In this article, we are going over some of the most common options for strength-building exercise equipment for homes. This type of exercise equipment is also known as resistance training equipment because we build strength by contracting our muscles against an external source of resistance.

To give you a few examples, we can resist gravity acting on a dumbbell by curling a biceps while holding the said dumbbell in our hands. Similarly, we can lift weights suspended on a cable routed through a set of pulleys (gym cable machines). Or, simply, we can use our own body's weight to resist the gravitational forces that naturally pull us down. (Think pull-ups or push-ups.) Notice, since, in all of the instances mentioned above, we use weight, these types of workout can also be called weight training.

There are also elastic or spring-loaded devices that will resist our attempts to stretch or compress them. I personally prefer a mix of body-weight exercises and elastic resistance bands/tubes, which gives me a wide range of options for working out at home on a budget and in small spaces.
